Stegmanns Inc. held their annual charity golf day on the 22nd of September 2015 at the Centurion Country Club. The sole purpose of our golf day is to raise as much money for Charity as possible and also have some fun while doing so. All the proceeds of the golf day will be paid to Abba House, a charity organisation and division of S.A Cares for Life, of which the Stegmanns family has grown fond of and have had the pleasure of supporting since 2008.
ABBA House provides short-term shelter for vulnerable babies and toddlers, who have been abandoned by or removed from their parents. Without the loving care provided by the permanent staff and hand full of volunteers, these distressed children would have nowhere else to go. ABBA House management work together with social workers in placing them with loving families who will give them the attention and care they have lacked in their short lives.
It is with great joy in our hearts that we can announce that we raised an amount of R102 550.00 for ABBA house. As the house mostly survives on generous donations, we believe that our contribution will help enormously with all the tasks and obstacles Abba House faces on a daily basis.
It was all hands on deck from the Stegmanns family on the 22nd of September 2015, as the day had arrived. Our team was headed by Nicole Pagel, Robyn Haupt and Charmaine Higgins, who truly spent a lot of time and effort in making this year’s golf day a huge success.
The weather was perfect for golf and the golf course was in mint condition. A special thanks to Centurion Country Club for all their assistance and hospitality during the day. We were blessed to have a full field of 18 teams playing on the day. The following companies played in our golf day:
Ghost Practice;
Irene Lodge;
Nedbank Business Banking;
Southdown;
Huurkor;
Eastern Titans;
Generation IT;
BDO;
City Properties;
Nedbank Property Finance;
Stegmanns Inc;
Little Green Beverages and
Godrich Mills.
The day started off with each team getting a Swagg Golf shirt, some water and energy drinks as well as a goody pack sponsored by Dischem in Raslouw. The goody pack had all the necessary supplements and energy boosters required to help the golfers on the very hot and humid summers’ day to make it back to the Club House.
Before tee off, each golfer had the opportunity to compete in a putting competition and stand a chance to win a brand new putter worth R1500.00. Ghost Practice was responsible for overseeing the putting challenge and was also the generous sponsor of the putter as the prize. The putting competition was won by one of Stegmanns’ own, Donald Fisher, who walked away with the brand new putter and a big smile on his face.
The golfers were entertained throughout the day as there were numerous watering holes as well as entertainment. On the par three 8th hole, the golfers had an opportunity to make use of a giant catapult slingshot to shoot their ball onto the green. Some of the golfers had great success with the slingshot and others were not that lucky.
On the 17th hole the golfers had the opportunity to challenge the professional golfer, Tandi von Ruben (2009 SA Women’s Open champ and European Ladies Tour member). The challenge was simple, closest to the pin between the golfer and Tandi. As she is a professional, the golfers had to pay in order to challenge her great golfing skills. All money raised on this hole was also donated to Abba House.
After the golfers returned to the club house, they were entertained by Michael Scholz and his famous trick shot show. He provided the golfers with some golfing tips, great impressions of famous golfers as well as showing off his great skill with a golf club and golf balls. Michael Scholz was also the MC and auctioneer for the evening dinner, and we thank him for his professional and fun entertainment. Each four ball was handed a prize amid the cheering and cheeky comments from the other golfers and Mike.
The golfers were thereafter treated with a well-deserved dinner. Once again thank you to the Centurion Country Club for providing us with excellent food and service.
The auction was spearheaded by the talented Michael Scholz who really knew how to raise funds while entertaining our golfers. R32 550.00 was raised during the auction. A further R20 000.00 was donated during the auction by Little Green Beverages which left us floored. We cannot express our gratitude for the support shown.
The golf day was a huge success, and we could not have done it without our sponsors and the generosity of the golfers who took part on the day. Thank you again to all the people involved in helping us make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate.
